Judge Davis Joins Problem-Solving Courts Committee

Congratulations to Judge Michael Davis on his appointment to the Florida Supreme Court’s Steering Committee on Problem-Solving Courts!

Judge Davis, who presides over the 17th Judicial Circuit’s Adult Drug Court, will serve a two-year term on the committee. The 17th Judicial Circuit’s Drug Court is one of only 10 in the nation to earn mentor court status.

The Florida Supreme Court has charged the Steering Committee with revising best practice standards and guidelines for adult drug courts, mental health courts, DUI courts, and veterans courts by June 30, 2028, to ensure they remain current with new research, guidance, and other relevant developments.

The 17th Judicial Circuit applauds Judge Davis for his dedication to problem-solving courts and his continued commitment to improving the administration of justice. Congratulations on this well-deserved appointment!

T. J. Reddick Bar Honors Judges Powell and Davis

Congratulations to Judges Jackie Powell and N. Hunter Davis, who were honored last weekend by the T. J. Reddick Bar Association for their outstanding service to the judiciary.

Judge Powell received the Judge Zebedee Wright Judicial Award, recognizing a member of the judiciary who exemplifies fairness, integrity, intellectual rigor, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

Judge Davis received the Rising Jurist Award, which honors a newer member of the judiciary who demonstrates exceptional promise, exemplary judicial temperament, and an unwavering commitment to the principles of the bench.

Paulette Melendez-Reyes Earns Shining Star Award

Congratulations to Digital Court Reporter Paulette Melendez-Reyes, recipient of Court Administration’s Shining Star Award for the second quarter of 2026!

Trial Lawyers Mentor Interns and Share Expertise

Top trial attorneys Kimberly Wald of Haggard Law Firm and Jessica Bartell of Spellacy, Hernandez & Bartell last week shared their expertise with approximately 20 summer law student interns at the 17th Judicial Circuit.

During the interactive discussion, the attorneys covered topics ranging from jury selection and the growing role of artificial intelligence in the courts to practical advice on building a successful legal career. Their real-world insights gave the interns a valuable look at the practice of law beyond the classroom.

Attorneys Share Career Insights with Judicial Interns

Summer law school interns this week gathered in County Court Judge Jackie Powell’s courtroom for a presentation by attorneys Anisha Atchana and Robert Vaughan, partners at Kim Vaughan Lerner LLC.

Drawing on their experience in the legal profession, the attorneys led an interactive discussion about the role of an attorney, sharing insights into the responsibilities, ethics and advocacy that define the profession while answering questions from the aspiring lawyers.
