Judge Robert Diaz honored by the Hispanic Lawyers Committee
Judge Robert Diaz was recently honored by the Hispanic Lawyers Committee of the Broward Bar Association. The award reads “The Honorable Robert F. Broward Bar Association hosted a New Attorneys’ Orientation Breakfast at the Central Courthouse
The Broward Bar Association hosted a New Attorneys’ Orientation Breakfast at the Central Courthouse this morning. Over coffee and bagels, a panel of the circuit’s administrative judges and Chief Judge Tuter discussed best practices and offered advice to the new attorneys. A tour of the new courthouse building and some courtroom observation rounded out the event.

The Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), 25 U.S.C. §1911, provides for transfer of jurisdiction of state court cases involving an Indian child to that child’s tribal court. Specifically, ICWA provides that “In any State court proceedings for the foster care placement of, or termination of parental rights to, an Indian child not domiciled or residing within the reservation of the Indian child’s tribe, the court, in the absence of good cause to the contrary, shall transfer such proceeding to the jurisdiction of the tribe…” Read More
Legislative Delegation Visits Broward Courthouse
Representatives from Broward County’s Legislative Delegation met with Chief Judge Jack Tuter and Trial Court Administrator Kathy Pugh this month for a “state of the courts” update.
Judge Jennifer Hilal Hosted the Urban League of Broward County Youth Group at the West Regional Courthouse
This summer, Judge Jennifer Hilal has hosted various youth groups at the West Regional Courthouse, arranging for them to observe court proceedings and taking time to speak with them both before and after court to discuss the consequences of certain actions and to help educate them on court proceedings and the justice system.
Visiting yesterday were teens from the Urban League of Broward County Youth Group.
