Introducing the Bernice Gaines Dorn Black Women Lawyers Association Board of Directors

Members of the first-ever Board of Directors for the newly formed Bernice Gaines Dorn Black Women Lawyers Association were sworn in by Judge Fabienne E. Fahnestock on May 29th during the inaugural installation brunch at the Marriott Dania Pointe. The sold-out event featured a panel discussion that included (retired) Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince and President Elect of the Florida Bar Sia Baker Barnes. The topic? In Class With a Judge!

A group of Bennett Elementary second, third and fifth graders met Judge Deborah Carpenter-Toye during a recent Career Day where she visited a classroom, showed them her robe and answered questions about what it means to be a judge. The students posed for pictures, mugged for the camera and had a great time learning about the law. Hands-on learning is the best!

Introducing the Employee Milestone Recognition Recipients

Fifteen longtime employees who work for Court Administration were honored on Wednesday with special awards created to celebrate notable work milestones. Trial Court Administrator Joe D’Amico and Deputy Trial Court Administrator Diana Sobel presented the awards during a brief ceremony in a packed courtroom. Co-workers erupted in applause when their colleagues were recognized. Joe initiated the employee milestone awards program to highlight the hard work and dedication of behind-the-scenes employees whose work is essential to keep court programs operational and moving forward. Unveiled: Judicial Wall of Honor at St. Thomas University

Talk about pomp and circumstance – St. Thomas University celebrated 11 judges from the 17th Judicial Circuit during a special Thursday unveiling ceremony of a Wall of Honor featuring photos of alumni members of the judiciary (past and present). The event took place in the Judge Peter T. Fay Moot Courtroom at the Benjamin L. Crump College of Law. In attendance were Judges Tabitha B. Eves, Kim Theresa Mollica, Thomas J. Coleman, Catalina Avalos, Tarlika Nunez-Navarro (former), John B. Bowman, Elaine A. Carbuccia, John Hurley, Barbara McCarthy (retired), Michael J. Orlando and Phoebee Francois. An amazing honor! Congratulations to all!

South Broward Bar Association Honors Chief Judge Tuter with Plaque Presentation

Soon-to-retire Chief Judge Jack Tuter got a surprise on Thursday when members of the South Broward Bar Association showed up in his courtroom with a token of their appreciation for his years of public service. The lawyers presented Judge Tuter with a plaque bearing these words: “For your outstanding years of service, unwavering support, and invaluable contributions to the South Broward Bar Association. Your dedication and leadership have made a lasting impact on our organization and the community we serve.” We couldn’t agree more. You will be greatly missed Judge Tuter!
