Pathways to Careers in Law visits the 17th Circuit

On Friday, April 5, 2024, students from the “Pathways to a Career in Law” program from Fort Lauderdale High School visited the 17th Circuit courthouse. Through the program, students continue to learn in depth about legal professions and the American judicial system.

The group of students visited and spoke with Judges Betsy Benson, Robert F. Diaz, Kenneth A. Gottlieb, and Chief Judge Jack Tuter. After speaking with each judge, the students attended the Investitures of Judges Catalina Avalos and Kevin P. Tynan.
Judge Moon Attends International Conference to End Violence against Women

Judge Stefanie C. Moon represented the 17th Circuit for the Florida Contingency of the End Violence Against Women International conference in San Diego, California on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.


End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) is an organization that works closely with law enforcement and community partners to keep the general public safe from gender-based violence through education and compassion based trainings.

Everglades High School Visits the 17th Circuit

Students from the 11th and 12th grades of Everglades High School came to visit the 17th Circuit Courthouse on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The students were able to learn about the American judicial system in detail, and spoke with several judicial staff members, including Judges Elijah H. Williams, George Odom, Jr, Lauren M. Alperstein, and Lorena V. Mastrarrigo.
Attucks Middle School visits the 17th

The seventh grade students of Attucks Middle School visited the 17th Circuit Courthouse and met with several judges on Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Judges Elijah H. Williams, Lauren M. Alperstein, Francis Viamontes, Jackie Powell, Michael J. Orlando, and Michael A. Robinson discussed the American Judicial system and stressed how important it is for the students to further their educations.
Saint Bonaventure visits the 17th Judicial Circuit

The 7th grade students of Saint Bonaventure Catholic School visited the 17th Circuit Courthouse for a series of tours beginning Tuesday, March 19, 2024 and ending Thursday, March 21, 2024.

Students had the opportunity to meet and speak with several judges, 17th Circuit staff, and partners including Chief Judge Jack Tuter, Judges Lorena V Mastrarrigo, Betsy Benson, Florence Taylor Barner, Catalina Avalos, Michael A. Robinson, Natasha DePrimo, Supervising Trial Court Staff Attorney Megan Zbikowski, Director of Mediation and Arbitration Brittany Simpson Joseph and Public Defender Gordon Weekes.
