FLHS Students compete in Mock Trial

Congratulations to Team Dolphin from Fort Lauderdale High School!


On Friday, February 24, 2023, the students of Fort Lauderdale High’s Pre-Law and Public Affairs Magnet Program participated in the finale of a mock trial where the best team was awarded for their ability to follow the trial process and how well they were able to interpret the law.


The Honorable Jack Tuter presided over the trial portion, while the Honorable Betsy Benson and Chief Assistant State Attorney Gina Faulk served as judges for the competition and gave a summarized critique at the end to review the students’ strengths and weaknesses that were displayed during the competition.

17th Judicial Circuit Honors Michael Moskowitz

On February 24, 2023, the 17th Judicial Circuit, in conjunction with Broward County, held a ribbon
cutting ceremony celebrating the naming of Courtroom 15150 as “The Michael Moskowitz Courtroom
15150”. Several speakers took time to share their memories of Michael including Chief Judge Jack Tuter
and Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine. Michael’s wife Marilyn Moskowitz and son
Congressman Jared Moskowitz also spoke about special memories of their husband/father and how his
work has impacted the lives of many.


Michael had a passion for the judicial system and helping others whenever he could along the way. He
will be remembered for his contributions to Broward County legislation and policy.

Judge Moon joins Red Cross for MLK Parade

The Honorable Stefanie C. Moon participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade with the
American Red Cross Broward Chapter in Pompano Beach, Florida. Judge Moon has served as a
board member of the American Red Cross Broward Chapter for five years.
The Broward County Chapter of the Red Cross continues to serve over 1.9 million Broward
County residents.

17th Judicial Circuit Celebrates Black History Month

The Broward County Bar Association joined the 17th Judicial Circuit and the TJ Reddick Bar Association in hosting a Celebration of Black Judges on Friday, February 17, 2023. Twelve Judges and three General Magistrates were honored and recognized in the Ceremonial Courtroom.

The celebration began with an introduction from the Honorable Michael A. Robinson and an invocation from Reverend Ricky Scott. A beautiful rendition of the Negro National Anthem was led by Ms. Eadina Hunt. Numerous participants spoke about their personal experiences and the importance of empowering young black people to pursue legal careers as attorneys, magistrates or judges.

RISE Court resumes with Judge Ross

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Judge Stacy Ross joined Juvenile Court Operations Manager Jessica Byczek and Alternative Sanctions Coordinator Sharde O’Connor in holding RISE court at the FLITE Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Over the past several months, court was held in various locations. However, the FLITE Center remains one of the main locations where court is held as it continues to serve as a community outreach and resource center for survivors of human trafficking and other special populations.

RISE Court continues to serve as a therapeutic court program designed to address the unique needs of child-victims of human trafficking. Though the court program was held via zoom during the pandemic, it has returned to being held in person throughout Broward County.
