Chief Judge Jack Tuter held a meeting with community organizations and leaders at the 17th
Judicial Circuit Courthouse on September 11, 2023. The meeting was held to discuss hurricane
readiness, exchange ideal practices and share past experience to better prepare for future
inclement weather.
Several Judicial Assistant’s from the 17th Judicial Circuit and the state of Florida attended an annual conference in Jacksonville, Florida from September 12 through September 15, 2023.
At the conference, JA’s had the opportunity to raise money for the Judicial Assistants Association of Florida, and spent time learning about best practices and procedures to take back to their circuits.
The opioid epidemic continues to plague the lives of many families in the state of Florida and
across the nation. September has been proclaimed as Opioids and Stimulants Awareness month
by Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz.

The Honorable Stacey Schulman received the Gladstone Award at the 2023 Florida Child
Protection Summit in Orlando, Florida. The Gladstone Award, named after the late Honorable
William E. Gladstone, is presented to judges making significant contributions to serving
dependent children and their families.
Judge Schulman received the award for her exemplary work with dependency court and the
creation of HOPE Court. This esteemed award has also been received by the Honorable Jose
Izquierdo in 2022 and the Honorable Hope Tieman Bristol in 2017.
The Honorable Florence Taylor Barner joined the City of Fort Lauderdale in arranging a luncheon for the service providers of the Fort Lauderdale Community Court on August 25, 2023. The luncheon was arranged to thank them for their hard work and dedication with the Community Court program.
Since its creation, the Community Court has expanded to a Pompano and future Hollywood location. October 12, 2023 will mark the one year anniversary of the initiation of the Community Court at the Pompano location.
