Court Administration hosted Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Friday, with an itinerary that included a mock trial with Teen Court, BSO SWAT, Bomb Squad and DUI demonstrations, a mock crime scene by BSO Crime Lab, and of course, court observation. Several judges hosted students in their courtrooms as well.
It was a good day had by all!
Last weekend, Judge Susan Alspector and Judge Jackie Powell attended the city of Miramar’s Wall of Honor Ceremony, to honor three community activists for their work.
Judge Martin Bidwill received the Judge of the Year award from the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) Fort Lauderdale Chapter during their annual Judges Night Reception dinner last week. This distinguished honor recognizes all of the hard work Judge Bidwill has put in to his many years on the bench. ABOTA’s mission is to uphold the jury system by educating the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury.

Friday, January 25 was the 2019 Judicial Procession and State of the Circuit, held in the central courthouse. All new judges elected and appointed in 2018 were recognized, and Chief Judge Tuter presented the State of the Circuit, highlighting the accomplishments of the Circuit in the past year. The Broward County Bar Association also presented Friend of the Bar awards to Circuit Judge Raag Singhal and County Court Judge Mindy Solomon.
