Small Claims Credit Card “Blitz” Helps County Backlog

Hundreds of small claims credit card cases were resolved in county court on Friday when the circuit hosted a Credit Card Case “Blitz”. Three dockets were set simultaneously in three courtrooms on the 14th floor of the Central Courthouse throughout the day, utilizing eight county civil judges and ten mediators. The mediators were on hand to facilitate agreeable payment plans between both parties of a case, thus avoiding the need to return to court for a trial. Of the 500 cases set, only about a dozen need return for trial.

National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

 

Though Broward County had an “observed” Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day earlier this year, the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day was officially April 26. The Broward County Clerk of Courts hosted events throughout the day on Thursday for children and grandchildren of staff members. Several judges took time out to meet with the children and discuss what being a judicial officer is like.

Judge Garcia-Wood Serves on Women’s Council Panel

Monday April 23rd, the Honorable Marina Garcia-Wood served as a panelist for the Women’s Council of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce event, “A Seat at the Table: Why Diversity Makes Good Business Sense.” Attorney, Sherylle Francis was the moderator and the other panelists were Ghenete Wright Muir, Esquire and Dionne E. Wong, Esquire. The event was held at the historic Richardson Park Manor House in Wilton Manors, Florida.
