Judge Phillips Joins the Walk For Freedom

The Honorable Carol-Lisa Phillips joined Judicial Assistant Minerva Hernandez, Deputy Roger DeHart and
State Attorney Sheena Kelly for the Walk For Freedom event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, October 14, 2023.


The event is held annually to increase global awareness and local participation in the fight against human trafficking.

Judge Williams Host American Heritage

The Honorable Elijah H. Williams hosted a class of high school students from American Heritage in his courtroom during a visit to the 17th Circuit courthouse on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.


The students had the opportunity to speak with Judge Williams and other 17th Circuit staff about the judicial process and how their particular roles affected the daily schedule of the courthouse.

Therapy Dog Helps Ease the Courts

The 17th Circuit has been providing therapy dogs in the courtroom since 2013. Therapy dogs are utilized in dependency courtrooms to help ease the tension that can exist during a dependency trial.

Community Court Pompano Beach Celebrates 1 Year of Success

Thursday, October 12, 2023, marks the one year anniversary of the Community Court at Pompano Beach.

Awards were provided to those individuals who helped make the program a success and a video was shared that highlighted stories of triumph about participants who were able to complete the program.


Judge Florence Taylor Barner and Chief Judge Jack Tuter were also recognized for their dedication and continuous support of the Community Court and its monumental impact on Broward County.
