The 17th Circuit collaborated with the Broward County Women Lawyer’s Association and Broward School District in hosting the Informed Voters Fair Judges Program for local students.

The 17th Judicial Circuit collaborated with the Broward County Women Lawyer’s Association and Broward School District to host the Informed Voters Fair Judges program for the students of Whiddon Rogers Middle School and Sheridan Technical High School on Friday, September 30th 2022.

Chief Judge Jack Tuter introduced the event and shared the floor with Attorney Madeleine Q. Mannello who opened the event with an informative presentation about the judicial system in the United States.

Students had the opportunity to participate in educational activities including Judicial Jeopardy and Bingo led by Chief Judge Jack Tuter, Judge Mardi Levy Cohen, Judge Andrew Siegel, Judge Catalina Avalos, Judge Andrea Ruth Gunderson, Judge Jose Izquierdo, Judge Michael Robinson, Judge Hope Tieman Bristol and Judge Keathan Frink.



ECC Program Coordinator Trent Baker and Judge Hope Tieman Bristol partner with Zero To Three program lead a discussion on working with victims of Domestic Violence.

On September, 27th, 2022, ECC Program Coordinator Trent Baker and Judge Hope Tieman Bristol partnered with Judy Norris and Gwen Doland of the Zero To Three program to lead a discussion with Case Managers and Courthouse Staff about working with victims of domestic violence and how to assist them in navigating the Dependency System.

The discussion was held in person with a parent with lived experiences contributing via zoom and gave the participants the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas in a collaborative space.

Judge Stacy Ross works with RISE Court to present a training on Human Trafficking

On Wednesday, September 22, 2022, Judge Ross along with RISE Court organized a training titled Human Trafficking 101. The training targeted attorneys and court staff who serve the juvenile and family courtrooms.

Congratulations are in order for General Magistrate Carla Bernice Cody!

General Magistrate Carla Bernice Cody was sworn in on Friday, September 16th, 2022 by Chief Judge Tuter and assigned to the Civil Division. Magistrate Cody will be receiving referrals from Circuit Civil Judges.

Magistrate Cody comes to us from her former role as the Special Magistrate for the City of Miramar. She is an FSU graduate and was admitted to the Florida bar in 1995.
