All Broward courts will close on Nov. 27-28th in observance of the holiday. The 17th Judicial Circuit wishes you and your family a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving. The courts will reopen on Monday, Dec. 1st.

National Adoption Day is just around the corner and preparations are underway for a day of festivities! Seventeen children ranging in age from toddlers to teens will be formally adopted this Saturday
during a fun-filled celebration at the Broward County Courthouse. The event will feature games, gifts and lots of joy. According to Judge John B. Bowman, “This is probably the most important day of their life.” The aim of National Adoption Day is to shine a light on this issue and stir interest in the children who are waiting to be placed in forever homes, while also celebrating those that have been adopted. Students from Pine Ridge Education Center in Davie saw the law in action during a courthouse tour this week that took them to the courtrooms of County Court Judge Chris Brown and Circuit Court Judge Elijah H. Williams. The students also heard presentations from the Broward State Attorney’s Office, the Broward Public Defender’s Office, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab.
They observed court hearings, asked thoughtful questions, and even heard from juveniles currently in custody.
The visit offered a real-world look at the justice system and the important roles it plays in our community.

Trading computer screens for river views, nearly 30 Court Administration employees on Tuesday stepped outside for a Health and Wellness Riverwalk on October 28, 2025. Employees enjoyed a brisk 15–20 minute walk along the New River — a perfect way to get some fresh air, stretch their legs, and recharge together.
These Riverwalks offer a simple but meaningful reminder that a few steps can go a long way toward better health and workplace camaraderie. Until next time!
Last week, representatives from Pompano Community Court, including County Court Judge Betsy Benson and other Pompano Court staff, attended the countywide Education and Employment Resource Expo in Lauderdale Lakes. The Pompano team connected with residents, shared information about court programs, and supported participants in accessing resources.
The event featured employers, educators, apprenticeships, GED programs, free health services, expungement information, community partners, free clothing, haircuts, and refreshments — all designed to help residents build a brighter future.

The 17th Judicial Circuit congratulates Judge Ari Abraham Porth on being named recipient of the Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy Annual Award, recognizing members of the legal community who exemplify the moral principles of Saint Thomas More.
Judge Porth, who presides over the Felony Mental Health Court, was honored by the St. Thomas More Society of South Florida at the Red Mass & Dinner on October 15, 2025.
Chief Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips praised Judge Porth as “a shining star and so very deserving of the award,” noting his dedication to the Mental Health Court and Task Force.
Judge Porth said, “In Courtroom 7810, we are pursuing justice every day and persistently running after it as we engage with some of society’s most vulnerable.”
