Visiting a Courtroom & Meeting With a Judge

A group of students from Yeshiva Middle School recently visited the courthouse where they spent time with Circuit Court Judge Jeffery R. Levenson learning first hand about law and order. The students heard about courtroom procedures, met courtroom personnel and posed for lots of pictures. Thank you Judge Levenson for taking some much time to “teach.”

Two Broward Judges Share Expertise on Judicial Panel at St. Thomas University

Broward Circuit Judge Michael Davis and Broward County Judge John “Jay” Hurley along with Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Robert T. Watson from the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Miami shared their expertise recently on a judicial panel hosted by the St. Thomas University Criminal Law Society and Drug Law Society. We are proud of our judges’ amazing community involvement and commitment to helping others.

Introducing the Bernice Gaines Dorn Black Women Lawyers Association Board of Directors

Members of the first-ever Board of Directors for the newly formed Bernice Gaines Dorn Black Women Lawyers Association were sworn in by Judge Fabienne E. Fahnestock on May 29th during the inaugural installation brunch at the Marriott Dania Pointe. The sold-out event featured a panel discussion that included (retired) Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince and President Elect of the Florida Bar Sia Baker Barnes. The topic? In Class With a Judge!

A group of Bennett Elementary second, third and fifth graders met Judge Deborah Carpenter-Toye during a recent Career Day where she visited a classroom, showed them her robe and answered questions about what it means to be a judge. The students posed for pictures, mugged for the camera and had a great time learning about the law. Hands-on learning is the best!

Unveiled: Judicial Wall of Honor at St. Thomas University

Talk about pomp and circumstance – St. Thomas University celebrated 11 judges from the 17th Judicial Circuit during a special Thursday unveiling ceremony of a Wall of Honor featuring photos of alumni members of the judiciary (past and present). The event took place in the Judge Peter T. Fay Moot Courtroom at the Benjamin L. Crump College of Law. In attendance were Judges Tabitha B. Eves, Kim Theresa Mollica, Thomas J. Coleman, Catalina Avalos, Tarlika Nunez-Navarro (former), John B. Bowman, Elaine A. Carbuccia, John Hurley, Barbara McCarthy (retired), Michael J. Orlando and Phoebee Francois. An amazing honor! Congratulations to all!

Teaching Students About the Judiciary

Fourth and fifth graders from Floranada Elementary School got a chance on Thursday to learn first-hand about the judiciary when Judge Tabitha B. Eves stopped by to visit on Career Day. Judge Eves answered questions about what it means to be a judge, showed students her robe and took pictures with the class during her visit.
