Students from the BSO Explorer program of Pompano Beach visited the 17th Circuit courthouse on Tuesday, February 19, 2024.
The explorers visited with Judges Elijah H. Williams, Michael J. Orlando and Jackie Powell who spoke to them about the judicial system and what it could be like for them to pursue a career in the legal field.
Court Administration from the 17th Circuit joined the Early Childhood and Dependency Drug Court to host a meet and greet for one of their newest collaborators in Peer Specialist Martine Pierre on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
Ms. Pierre represents the South Florida Wellness Network and is part of a team that offers a variety of services for individuals and families in need.
Judge Florence Taylor Barner led the speed mentoring event at St. Thomas University College of Law on February, 15, 2024. Students engaged in brief sessions with various judges and attorneys who offered career advice and suggested best practices for the students as they begin their journeys as legal professionals.
Assisting with the event were 17th Circuit judges Elaine A. Carbuccia, Michele Towbin Singer, Lorena V. Mastrarrigo, and former 17th Circuit judge and Dean at St Thomas University College of Law Tarlika Nunez-Navarro.
Judge Florence Taylor Barner held Community Court Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. This was the first week that the Community Court Fort Lauderdale was held at its new location. Court will continue to be held Tuesdays from 12:30 PM-4:00 PM.

The students of Sheridan Technical High School visited the 17th Circuit courthouse for a guided tour on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
The students learned more about the American judicial system, observed an actual trial with Judge Peter Holden, and spoke with Judges Thomas J. Coleman, Stacy Ross, and Michael J. Orlando.
