Investiture of Judge Alperstein and Judge Mastrarrigo

On Friday, May 12, 2023, the 17th Judicial Circuit held the investiture of the Honorable Lauren M. Alperstein and the Honorable Lorena V. Mastrarrigo.

Judge Bristol Hosts Lunch and Learn With Zero to Three

On May 17, 2023 ECC Program Coordinator, Trent Baker, Community Coordinator, Tiffany Jackson and Judge Hope Tieman Bristol partnered with Zero To Three’s Judy Norris to host an Early Childhood Court site visit with guests from Early Childhood Court of Palm Beach County and Ohio’s Health Baby Court Team. Zero To Three continues to partner with Early Childhood Courts of Florida and meet regularly to discuss best practices, updates with policy and procedure and share new ideas.

17th Circuit Judges Attend HANDY’S 17th Annual Scholars Breakfast

HANDY, INC. is a non-profit organization that continues to serve children of Broward County in foster
and relative/non-relative care linked with the child dependency system. The Annual Scholars Breakfast
celebrates the academic achievements of young adults who have connected with the organization as
children.

Judge Benson Featured for Assisting Community Court

The Honorable Betsy Benson was featured in the local publication New Pelican for her outstanding assistance with temporarily taking the bench at the Pompano Beach Community Court. New Pelican highlighted Judge Benson’s statement “Sometimes no matter how much we try, the participant has to want something better for themselves.” Judge Benson was referring to a hearing that ended with a participant refusing assistance.


Community Court Pompano Beach continues to be held twice a month on Thursdays at the Annie L. weaver Health Center. The Honorable Florence Taylor Barner continues to preside over this location. For the full article from New Pelican, click on the link below:

Judge Barner and Judge Miranda Elected to the Executive Committee of the Conference of County Court Judges of Florida

Judges Barner and Miranda were recently elected to the Executive Committee of the Conference of County Court Judges of Florida. Judge Barner was elected to serve as the 4th District Vice President, while Judge Miranda was re-elected to serve as the 17th Circuit Representative. Both judges will be serving alongside Judge Gottlieb who is serving his second year as president.
