New Judges Prepare to Take the Bench at Florida Judicial College

Learning how to be a judge is what Florida Judicial College is all about. A large contingent from the 17th Judicial Circuit is in Orlando participating in FJC in Orlando in preparation for taking the bench. Included are Circuit Judge Johnathan D. Lott; and County Court Judges Lauren N. Peffer, Woody R. Clermont, Corey B. Friedman and Kathleen E. Angione. Judge Lott will preside in Family Court in Fort Lauderdale; Judge Clermont is assigned to the South Regional Courthouse; Judge Peffer, the West Regional Courthouse in Plantation; Judge Angione, the North Regional Courthouse and Judge Friedman, the main courthouse in Fort Lauderdale where he will preside over first appearances. The faculty includes Judges Natasha Deprimo, Keathan Frink, Jeffrey Levenson, Giuseppina Miranda and Magistrate Yves Laventure.

Broward Felony Drug Court Earns Prestigious “Mentor” Court Status

Congratulations to Judge Michael Davis, Drug Court Manager Russell Edwards and their amazing staff for earning the incredible “mentor” designation for our Adult Pre-Trial Felony Drug Court. Honoring Judge Peter M. Weinstein with a Courtroom Dedication in his Name

Former Chief Judge Peter M. Weinstein was honored on Friday with a courtroom dedication and ribbon-cutting in recognition of his many years of service. Judge Weinstein served as judge 21 years for the 17th Judicial Circuit, with six of those years as Chief Judge. Sitting judges, retired judges, and local, state and national elected officials along with Judge Weinstein’s family packed the event to show their support and admiration for Judge Weinstein’s contributions to the Judiciary. Courtroom 14150 is now the Chief Judge Peter M. Weinstein Courtroom.Judge Weinstein also served 14 years as a Florida State Senator. Congratulations Judge Weinstein and thank you for your service. Peffer will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 in Judge Jack Tuter’s ceremonial courtroom, #WW17150. The investiture ceremony for County Court Judges Kathleen E. Angione, Corey B. Friedman and Woody R. Clermont will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28th, 2025, also in Judge Tuter’s courtroom. Congratulations to our new judges!

Pioneering Gottlieb Family Recognized with Honorary Street Name

Judge Kenneth A. Gottlieb has some bragging rights. The City of Hollywood recently co-named a street in honor of his family’s decades of contributions to the city. The Gottliebs were homeowners, business owners, home builders, community activists and elected officials who helped make Hollywood what it is today. Congratulations on this unique honor!
