Friday, January 25 was the 2019 Judicial Procession and State of the Circuit, held in the central courthouse. All new judges elected and appointed in 2018 were recognized, and Chief Judge Tuter presented the State of the Circuit, highlighting the accomplishments of the Circuit in the past year. The Broward County Bar Association also presented Friend of the Bar awards to Circuit Judge Raag Singhal and County Court Judge Mindy Solomon.
Judges Gamm, Bristol, and Schulman (and families) braved the cold and the rain on Saturday to support Kids in Distress at its annual Superhero 5K Run. One of the judges even placed first in the female division!
The Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County held its 12th Annual “Breaking the Silence” luncheon last week, hosted by Judge Michael Davis and his wife. Also in attendance were Judge Ari Porth, Judge Hope Bristol and Judge Stacey Schulman.
Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen presented a proclamation to Chief Judge Tuter at the 2019 Judicial Procession and State of the Circuit event. The Board of County Commissioners designated Friday, January 25, 2019 as “Broward County 17th Circuit Judiciary Appreciation Day”

SPECIAL COURT MONITORS
The Seventeenth Judicial Circuit is now accepting applications for independent Special Court Monitors to be appointed by the court investigate non-indigent guardianship cases pursuant to Chapter 744, Florida Statutes. The Special Court Monitor is responsible for conducting investigations regarding wards and their assets after entry of a court order.
To qualify, the applicant must be familiar with Chapter 744, Florida Statutes, and meet one of the following criteria: (1) have prior law enforcement experience; (2) or be a licensed nurse or nurse practitioner or psychiatric nurse; (3) be a licensed social worker; (4) be an accountant; (5) be a member of The Florida Bar; or (6) be a registered professional guardian. Applicants must be able to investigate matters and file a report and recommendations with the court within fifteen (15) days of appointment and complete all investigations within sixty (60) days of appointment. The successful applicant who receives appointments will be paid from the guardianship assets, if any. The application appears below.
Completed applications must be mailed or hand delivered to: Office of the Trial Court Administrator, Attn. General Counsel, Broward County Courthouse, 201 Southeast 6th Street, Room 20170, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301. Upon receipt, your application will be reviewed and you may be contacted to schedule an interview. These independent special court monitor positions are open until filled. Successful applicants will be required to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.
Last week, all fourteen judges appointed and elected in 2018, attended Florida Judicial College Phase I in Orlando. Mandated by the Supreme Court of Florida, Judicial College consists of a series of educational programs developed to prepare every new judge for judicial service.
Last week, Judge Barner swore in the first black female President of the Broward County Police Chiefs Association, Inc., Lauderhill Chief Constance Stanley. Judge Deluca gave the keynote address at the event.
Judge Daniel A. Casey was sworn in last week by Chief Judge Tuter. Judge Casey is assigned to the circuit criminal bench.
