April was an active month for Judge Robert F. Diaz’s community outreach!

Judge Diaz hosted his 18th Annual Hispanic Law Student Luncheon in his Courtroom on April 12th. Hispanic lawyers and judges gathered to network with Hispanic law students who shared their life experiences while lunching on great food and learning how the Hispanic legal community can give them a helping hand in pursuing their legal careers.
Judge Diaz had the honor of swearing in Nova Law students who recently passed the bar exam.
Judge Diaz brought his Broward County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers for Literacy group to Stephen Foster Elementary School to read to 1st grade students.

Hundreds of small claims credit card cases were resolved in county court on Friday when the circuit hosted a Credit Card Case “Blitz”. Three dockets were set simultaneously in three courtrooms on the 14th floor of the Central Courthouse throughout the day, utilizing eight county civil judges and ten mediators. The mediators were on hand to facilitate agreeable payment plans between both parties of a case, thus avoiding the need to return to court for a trial. Of the 500 cases set, only about a dozen need return for trial.

Judge Michele Towbin Singer, along with her husband and friends, volunteered over the weekend on behalf of the B’Nai Brith Justice League at the Miami Dolphins and AARP Foundation’s Million Meal Pack, an event to help end older adult hunger in South Florida.

Though Broward County had an “observed” Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day earlier this year, the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day was officially April 26. The Broward County Clerk of Courts hosted events throughout the day on Thursday for children and grandchildren of staff members. Several judges took time out to meet with the children and discuss what being a judicial officer is like.
