National Center for State Courts Recognizes the 17th Circuit as part of its Court Space Redesign Challenge

The 17th Judicial Circuit was selected by the National Center for State Courts to present at the NCSC Court Space reDesign Challenge. The workshop allowed the 17th Circuits’ Video Operations Manager Ian Edwards and Chief Deputy Court Administrator Diana Sobel to speak about the innovative technology at the 17th Circuit and how it has benefited the judicial staff with their proceedings.


The NCSC invited ten projects from different court systems from around the country to share and exhibit a variety of ways that a court system can conduct business and welcome modern business practices. The 17th Judicial Circuit was the only court system chosen from the state of Florida.

17th Circuit Judges Honored at Judicial Reception

Judge Florence Taylor Barner, Judge Jackie Powell and Judge Fabienne E. Fahnestock were honored at the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association Judicial Reception on Friday, June 23, 2023.

The GSCBWLA Foundation was formed in 1985 and has continued to support and encourage Black women lawyers to pursue professional excellence and further their legal careers. The Judicial Reception took place at the 2023 Annual Florida Bar Convention.

Center for Independent Living Broward Visits the 17th Circuit

The 17th Circuit welcomed the members of the Center for Independent Living Broward on June 23, 2023. Members of the Center visited the Broward County Courthouse as part of their summer program where they learn more about career development and community engagement.

Members of the center spent time with several judges including Judge Natasha DePrimo, Judge Michael Davis and Judge Fabienne E. Fahnestock who spoke with the group about the role of a judge and the impact they can have on the justice system.
